What is the best instant messenger? What do most people have and why?

I personally use 3 messengers, GTalk, MSN Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger. Most people have MSN Live Messenger which is a according to survey in 2006 but now Gtalk has launched its IM Client and it is probably going to overtake all IM Clients in the near future. Yahoo on the other hand maintains a stable attracting crowd and comes with many features but still doesn’t rank among the top IM Clients.
The best I think personally is Gtalk which is very flexible and easy to use although it is out of many options but still I think it is very easy to use with a good GUI plus it doesn’t slow down your PC and also doesn’t take long to sign in. Gtalk doesn’t have a webcam option which is an added feature in almost all IM Clients. It also doesn’t have a file sharing system which is another let down. It has a great voice chat option, which I have personally checked and the voice clarity is very good. Gtalk has been one of the first IM Clients to be added in the inbox as well so you could use the IM Client without even downloading it, which was a great plus, since Gmail had been one of the fastest mail servers to be getting the highest position.
On the other hand MSN Live Messenger, the latest version has all the features you will need with webcam options to voice chat options to display images to creating avatars to sharing and sending files and also combining with Yahoo Messenger with Voice so that you could add Yahoo users and chat with them using MSN which was a deal with Yahoo.
But I personally think Yahoo has been my messenger only for its best voice chat and webcam options. The webcam speed comparing all three is the best in Yahoo Messenger and the older version, the better, because the newer versions slow down your computer to a great level.

GUI means graphic user interface that is the main window which u see of the messenger....
and yahoo is really a lot of fun .... but u know it takes a lot of time to sign in at times whereas gtalk doesnt so thats why its popularity is increasing....

well i use MSN messenger because i have been using it since many years. and the reason is that most of my friends have hotmail id. i have tried yahoo messenger and i liked it. i found it more interactive than MSN. i have heard much about gtalk, if i will get time i would like to try it also.
yeah anum i think you should use gtalk once ... you will really like it for its voice chat clarity plus its easy sign in ...
I started off my MESSENGER experience with Yahoo Messenger! I don't really have any FAVORITE messenger, but depending on what many of my friends use, I use MSN messenger frequently! :))
I really like skype, its just so fun to use with the phone feature added. its so cool to have that app IMO.
GTalk is really best, bcoz i heard a clear voice on GTalk . In remaining Chat Clints it's not good.

What's a GUI? This is all very good information. I've never used what you designated as the best messenger. Yahoo is a lot of fun, but no one I know has it!
